Hagi Gohon Chawan

Hagi gohon chawan, decorated with white ideograms and lines over a dark grey background, Garakuyō kiln, XX century. The chawan features a soft glaze over a warm clay body, with characteristic pink blushes (Gohon) appearing from localized reduction firing. The bowl is wheel thrown with slightly irregular contours, emphasizing hand crafted qualities. The glaze is semi-translucent, pooling in areas to reveal subtle color shifts and occasionally fine crackling (kan’nyū). The foot (kodai) is unglazed, exposing the raw clay and stamped with the Garakuyō kiln mark.
