Bizen Yaki Tebachi, tray with central handle, with original black lacquered box, end of XIX Century. This is a hand formed stoneware tray distinguished by its central handle, traditionally used for carrying or serving. Made from Bizen’s characteristic high iron clay, it is unglazed, with natural reddish brown color resulting from long wood fired kiln sessions. The surface bears kiln scars and ash marks, typical of Bizen yaki’s rustic aesthetic. The central handle is integrated into the form, both functional and sculptural. It comes housed in its original black lacquered wooden box.
